Industry pressures such as rising costs and labor strains present challenges to the laboratory industry not experienced in recent memory. Laboratories pinched for capital spending may not view new equipment as a cost-effective solution, thereby resigning their focus to operational improvements. However, labs can expect approval for new instrumentation with a proper proposal that defines the widespread benefits of the investment. This presentation will highlight some of the management techniques and newer technologies for labs to consider when battling rising expenses.

Tyler Radke, MLS(ASCP), is from Green Bay, Wisconsin and graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh in 2012 with a bachelor’s in medical technology and ASCP certification as a medical laboratory scientist. He started as a laboratory generalist before relocating back to Green Bay as the technical lead of microbiology at Bellin Health. In 2017, he became the laboratory manager at Bellin Memorial Hospital and Bellin Health Oconto Hospital in Wisconsin. He is also a regional representative serving on the Laboratory Technical Advisory Group (LabTAG) for the Wisconsin Clinical Laboratory Network (WCLN).
