Veritas Genetics is launching a whole genome test under the four-figure price point.
The whole genome assay is priced at $999, with interpretation and genetic counseling included.
The pricing breaks a psychological barrier of sorts for the testing, which at one time was priced at $10,000 or more. In recent years, such kind of testing cost $2,500 to $5,000.
In addition to the test, the Boston-based Veritas is offering a variety of ancillary services, including a digital report and app to easily refer to and interact with results; ongoing access to the genome for future interpretation; on-demand genetic counseling via video hookup; and access to clinicians for opinions and follow-up care from Massachusetts General Hospital, Dana Farber Cancer Institute, Boston Children’s Hospital and the Mayo Clinic.
“The whole genome is the new standard. At this price point, there is no reason to use anything but the whole genome, especially for any tests that are close to or more than the price of our whole genome,” said Mirza Cifric, Veritas’ chief executive and co-founder in a statement.” The whole genome is the foundation of precision medicine and a lifetime resource to maximize quality of life and longevity.”
The whole genome test requires a physician order.
